

Inmate walks away at Hodgen prison
Brandon Baker, an inmate at Jim E. Hamilton in Hodgen, unlawfully walked away at approximately 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Baker, 38, is a white male serving a 5-year sentence for failure o register as violent offender out of Tulsa County. He is 6-0, 190 pounds with facial and neck tattoos.
If you see Inmate Baker or know of his whereabouts, do not approach and call 911.


Panama visits Rejoice Christian in top game
Week 6 football games feature a huge opportunity for Panama and a chance to rebound from losses last week for Heavener, Pocola and Poteau Friday night.
Panama, 4-1 and 2-0, visits Rejoice Christian, also 4-1 and 2-0, with the leader staying atop the district standings. Rejoice is the defending district and state champions for Class A-I and won at Pocola last week, so the Razorbacks will have their work cut out for them.
Heavener, 1-4 and 1-1, hosts Roland in its homecoming game. Homecoming festivities are at 6 p.m. with the game scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Roland is also 1-4 and 1-1 coming off a home loss to Kiefer last week. The Wolves lost at Prague, 20-14, a game Heavener could have won and stayed tied for the district leadership with brutal games remaining at Kingston and against Kiefer and Bethel.

Poteau suffered its first loss of the year against Ada last week 49-35, in an offensive battle. The Pirates are 4-1 and 1-1 going to Glenpool, 0-5 and 0-2. Glenpool is coached by former Poteau assistant Peyton Werner, making the game even more special.
After last week’s 27-20 loss to Rejoice Christian, Pocola visits Hulbert, looking to get back to its winning ways. The Indians are 4-2 and 1-1. Hulbert is 2-3 and 0-2.
Talihina, ranked No. 1 in Class A-II, faces one of its tougher games of the season when the Golden Tigers visit Central, now 3-2 and 0-2. The Golden Tigers are 5-0 and 2-0 and have cruised to easy wins in each contest.
Spiro is looking toward its first win when the Bulldogs visit Wilburton, In the past, a matchup between these teams would almost be like a bye for the Bulldogs, but things have changed. Spiro is 0-5 and 0-2 while the Diggers are 4-1 and 1-1, suffering their first loss last week to Henryetta.
The county’s final game has Arkoma at home opening district play with Gans. The Mustangs, coming off a bye, are 2-3 while Gans is 3-3.

Heavener boys win meet
Heavener boys win their own cross country meet Thursday while the Lady Wolves finished second.
The Wolves were led by meet champion, Morgan Altstatt, shown in the accompanying photo. Parker Brand was third, Geren Palmer fourth and Martin Vasquez fifth. Also receiving medals were Slayde Cockburn, Jerred Boss, Adan Walker and Diego Cruz.
Heavener’s girls were led by Kanan Summers, who finished fifth. Allison Palmer, Gracie Springfield and Jenna Scroggins also medaled.
For the middle school boys, Ethan Anderson finished first while Chipper Vanhook, Aiden Enger and Manny Lopez received a medal.

Howe girls stun Dale
Half of the remaining teams at the Class 2A state fast pitch tournament are LeFlore County teams after Thursday’s quarterfinal games.
No. 10 Howe surprised top-ranked Dale, 3-0, while second-ranked Pocola cruised past No. 8 Panama, 12-0.
In the Class A tournament, Wister came up short against Hominy, 4-1.
In the fall state baseball tournament, Cameron fell to Rattan, 5-4, while Wister lost to Canute, 4-3.
In the biggest surprise, Howe ended years of frustration with Dale in softball, topping the Lady Pirates by scoring all three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Dale managed only two hits.
Kaydence Delt went the distance for the Lady Lions, allowing the two hits and no runs with 14 strikeouts and three walks.
Lexi Scarberry provided all the runs Howe would need with a three-run home run in the fifth, scoring all the Lady Lions’ runs. Kylie Mundy finished 2-3 for Howe.
In Friday’s semifinals, Howe takes on Preston at 9:30 p.m. while Pocola take on Oktaha at 11 a.m. Saturday’s finals are at noon.
